A little over a month ago, I was able to put a down payment on this beautiful home for my family. I truly worked so hard to make this house happen for Blakely and I am so sad ā I just wanted her to have a home.
Not 32 days later, Helene flooded our home leaving us and so many others completely devastated, but grateful our family was okay because we know there were many that suffered something so much worse.
The number one question that was asked when we bought our home is if this area and specifically this house had ever experienced flooding and it hadnātā neither had any other house on our street.
My neighbors were not worried about this storm at all, many of which have lived here for 20-40 years ā we all lost our homes during this storm.
Our home is currently being gutted 4 ft and below, including flooring, cabinets, kitchen island, everything in the bathrooms ā all completely new when we bought it.
I have accepted that we will not have Blakelyās first mobile Christmas in that home and that we will not be in there for the foreseeable future, but I am so grateful for my community. An event like this has truly shown me the support system I have, and I am truly speechless.
I have cried because of what I have lost, but I have also cried happy tears because of how much love I have felt.
God has really put some incredibly amazing people in our lives. If you would like to follow the rebuild of our home, feel free to follow @mignonaobrien š«¶š¼
